Examiner Interview with Asher

Examiner.com:

It’s been ten years since the height of the boy band craze of the late 90s and just when you think you got it all out of your system, here comes another one. V Factory has something different to offer though: street appeal, R&B beats, and an edginess that provokes you to dance like them (even though you won’t be able to catch up). Examiner.com spoke to lead singer Asher Book about the boy band craze that took the world by storm only a few short years ago and where they fit into today’s ever changing pop scene.

What makes you think you guys can make pop music cool again after the boy band bonanza just ten years ago?
Wow! Well, first off I think it’s been a nice gap that it has been ten years that they were in their prime. The only thing we can do, as a group, is to try to do something different. We choreograph all our numbers and we try to get involved in the music as much as possible.

V Factory’s first single, “Lovestruck” is gritty-urban sounding. Was that the band’s plan from the get go and is this an indicator of what the album will sound like?
We were trying to stray away from the whole boy band sound. When the public first heard the song, some were saying it sounded like Timbaland meets Justin Timberlake. I think that’s what we were going for. Our image is something different. It has edge appeal to it. We didn’t want to come out with matching outfits and singing harmonies. Our whole background is dance. Lovestruck sums up what most of our album sounds like.

When was your defining moment that you told your mom and dad that you wanted to be a pop star?
There was never really one defining moment for me. I starred on Broadway and that’s how I got into the business. I have always been singing my whole life. Warner Brothers asked me to step in for the lead singer position of V Factory and the rest was history. I never responded to an open call or anything like that. It kind of came naturally.

Fame is another endeavor of yours.
Yes. Fame the movie will be coming out nationally on September 26th and I will be playing one of the leads in it. I’m really excited for that as well.
